M2TD, a 100% black woman owned organisation, is fast becoming a leader in the local data management industry, providing a full range of services that include the movement of data (Network Services), Storage, Security, Analysis and Integration of data. The company’s strategic objective is to build on its established success by adding value for its clients, shareholders and employees alike.
“This is where Melusi Gumbi has such an important role to play,” says M2TD CEO, David Matshane. “He will be an essential part of the team that takes the company forward in today’s highly competitive environment.”
In his new role, Mr Gumbi will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the business which, in addition to all the standard operational functions, will include management of the company’s departments such as Security, Networks, HR, Internal IT, Storage, Sales and Marketing Portfolio.
“My primary responsibility will be to ensure that M2TD operates effectively and efficiently for the benefit of both our clients and our shareholders,” he says. “As we trade in such a hi-tech sector, an important aspect of this will be to nurture and develop our highly skilled workforce, as well as to foster an environment in which innovation can take place. This means that I will not only be overseeing all key operational functions, but also that I will be closely involved in the development of organisational policy and strategy.”
Melusi Gumbi, who has over 20 years of business experience, brings a wealth of knowledge and insight to his new position. In addition to an MBL from Unisa, he holds a Btech In Knowledge Management from the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the same institution. At present, he is working towards an MCom in Business Management at the University of Johannesburg (UJ).

His first management position was at Eskom, where he was the IT Manager for the Matla Power Station. He later joined Arivia.kom, initially taking up the position of Regional Manager for Mpumalanga, Gauteng, Eastern Cape and Western Cape, and then moving on to become General Manager: Regional Services at Arivia.kom. At T-Systems, his roles included Head of Operational Excellence (ICTO) and Manager: Risk, Quality and Security.
He is therefore well versed in the critical area of IT strategy and has an established reputation as an innovative thinker. Operationally, he has demonstrated a strong focus on achieving results and on delivering excellent customer service. His highly developed interpersonal skills also enable him to draw out the best from the teams he works with.
“I am very excited to be joining M2TD,” he says, “especially as the company is gaining traction and recognition in the local data management industry so quickly.”
Going forward, he says M2TD will continue to focus on providing innovative data management solutions, delivering excellent customer service, upholding a high level of ethics and building its brand.
“In striving to do this, I will continue to be guided and inspired by my personal motto, which I hope will be equally motivating for the teams I work with: ‘It is possible. Set your mind to it and you’ll be unbeatable’.”
